VoIP Network Review
VoIP Network Review
The VoIP Network Review is an in-depth analysis of key elements of a healthy VoIP Carrier network design. We go in deep on four key areas of effective VoIP network operation.
Routing and Switching
Does the network adhere to solid IP Network Design Principles? Are the configurations robust and effective? What risks exist for growth and maintenance?
Security
Are controls in place to prevent theft of service (fraud) and interruption/denial of service? Are firewalls and Session Border Controllers (SBCs) deployed effectively?
Network Quality of Service
Does the network effectively guarantee consistent delivery of VoIP signaling and media? Can QoS performance be verified?
Interface Performance
Are the Network Interfaces that carry VoIP performing at sufficient reliability for voice and faxing? Are there duplex, congestion, or interference problems?
We work one-on-one with the VoIP Service Provider's network team to understand and analyze the Network, using detailed diagnostics from the equipment. The Network Review provides a document describing the best practices for network operation, along with risk factors or deficiencies in the network. A Service Provider should use this report to plan improvements for the system.
The Service Provider will provide available diagrams and documentation, a detailed list of cables and connections, along with detailed diagnostics from network equipment. This Review is performed on an operating VoIP network and analyzes the current state of the network. This work is done remotely.
When to do it? A VoIP Network Review is performed on a live, running VoIP network. No service-affecting tasks are performed.
The VoIP Network Review Plus includes all the services of the VoIP Network Review PLUS a full analysis of Reliability and Fault Tolerance.

VoIP Network Review Plus
The VoIP Network Review Plus includes all the features of the VoIP Network Review, PLUS a full analysis of Reliability and Fault Tolerance. This helps remove any doubts about implementation of fault tolerance features. We assess:
Physical Connectivity of Devices
Are devices replicated and connected to provide effective fault tolerance?
Protected Services
What services are provided, and are they protected from all faults? For example: voice mail, conferencing, provisioning, ordinary voice calling, mid-call control.
Failover Protocols
Are effective network protocols implemented to ensure (a) automatic detection of faults, (b) synchronization of shared application state, (b) removal of faulted network components, (c) activation of the backup network component, and (d) advertisement of the service to the network?
Test Results
We develop a full fault-tolerance test plan for the Service Provider network to check the protected services. We work with the SP to execute the tests, then we help analyze the results to understand fault tolerance strengths and weaknesses.
When to do it? A VoIP Network Review Plus is performed on a live, running VoIP network. The fault-tolerance tests MAY be service affecting, and are done in a scheduled maintenance window.
